Frank Licsko paints light — on water, through trees, across the human form. Working in traditional oils on linen or canvas, each painting is developed entirely by hand. The process is unhurried. Each work is given the time required to fully realize the image as it is seen.

Born in Budapest, Hungary in 1946, Frank emmigrated to Canada with his family in 1957.

As a young boy he discovered the powerful landscapes of Canada’s Group of Seven, which left a lasting impression alongside the dramatic political and religious imagery of his early years in Hungary.

He began painting seriously at the age of thirteen in Stratford, Ontario. His talent was recognized quickly, and by his mid-teens his work was already being collected. After a short time at the Ontario College of Art, he chose to follow his own path as an independent artist.

Now, after more than seventy years of painting, Frank continues to explore light and its emotional power.

At twenty he was commissioned to paint a portrait of U.S. Vice President Hubert Humphrey. Over the decades his paintings have entered distinguished collections worldwide, including those of Emperor Akihito of Japan, Hillary Clinton, Dr. Laura Schlessinger, Larry Hagman, and corporate collections such as Technicolor and Clint Eastwood’s Tehama company.

Frank lives and works on beautiful Vancouver Island, British Columbia, where the ever-changing light of the Pacific coast continues to inspire him.
