Frank Licsko paints light—on water, through trees, across the human form.

Working in traditional oils on linen or canvas, each painting is developed entirely by hand.

The process is unhurried.

Each work is given the time required to fully realize the image as it is seen.

Frank Licsko was born in Hungary and immigrated to Canada in 1957. As a child, he encountered the work of Canada’s Group of Seven—an early and lasting influence, alongside the political and religious imagery of his early years in Budapest.

He began painting at thirteen in Stratford, Ontario, where his work was quickly recognized and collected. After a brief period at the Ontario College of Art, he left formal training to pursue his own direction in painting.

Licsko has devoted his life entirely to his work, developing an international following of collectors. At the age of twenty, he was commissioned to paint a portrait of U.S. Vice President Hubert Humphrey.

His paintings have been collected internationally, including by Emperor Akihito of Japan, Hillary Clinton, Dr. Laura Schlessinger, Larry Hagman, and corporate collections such as Technicolor and Tehama, Clint Eastwood’s development company.

He now lives and works on Vancouver Island, British Columbia.
